I took this photo a while ago and knew I had to paint it, the horse looks like such a fun character!
Part of my small format, affordable watercolour series, the original measures 5.5″×7.5″ and is painted on Artistico paper.
I have a passion for watercolours and love to play with colour, exploring the effect of combining pigment and water on the paper. Challenging the traditional view that watercolours are pale and washy, I love vibrant colour used in exciting combinations. I am especially drawn to flowers, their three dimensional forms presenting endless challenges.
I won the SAA Amateur Artist of the Year 2012 for my painting “Cosmic Poppies”.

The first thing I could think of when I saw this painting was a line from an old TV commercial……depending on your age, you may remember it….“You’ll wonder where the yellow went when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent” Really cute painting, Ruth.
