Yosemite Falls

Yosemite Falls

A close-up shot of Yosemite Falls with ice on the cliffs. Nikon D80 with 200mm lens at 1/400 sec. and f/5.0. ISO 200. This was taken in April when the mornings are still in the 20’s and low 30’s in Yosemite Valley and the mist from the falls freezes to the canyon wall. I used 1/400 sec. to ‘freeze’ the action of the water as opposed to allowing for movement that would in this case would detract from the composition.

Yosemite Falls belongs to the following groups:

shaaaabammmm.. great shot.. symmetrical.. what is also facinating is the variations of wetness.. or the different gradients of blue tones.. Ahemm.. HEY YOU!... I said HEY YOU.. Down there in the bottom of the frame… Can you Duck your head? hahahah lol.. to me it looks like a guy that is reading a book. ... oh.. I just noticed your comments on the right.. which I didn’t see before in previous shots. Ahh…. yes.. ice… and freeze, lol.. freeze exposure… Freeze shot is good to show the mistyness of the area… getting the long exposure whispy just makes it all whispy without knowing the “look” of the water… and people would assume.. long exposure.
