In the 1800’s this view would have shown many whaling vessels and other sailing ships as it was the main port of New Zealand. The present day view shows three large yachts anchoring in the lee of Flagstaff Hill, Russell, Bay of Islands, New Zealand. In the background can be seen Paihia which is the main base for tourists wishing to explore the Bay of Islands – this has also been named the third most popular destination for overseas tourists in N.Z.
