The New Zealand Pigeon (Kereru) is a large hansome bird bigger than the English Wood Pigoen and found widespread througout New Zealand in forested areas, also seen in open country when feeding on a wide range of fruits, seeds, flowers and foliage of native and exotic plants.
They are important agents in dispersing seed from many plants, especially seeds from podocarp trees.
Location – my cherry tree at Paihia, Bay of Islands, New Zealand.
