A Game of Swans at Lincoln.............! by

PLEASE CLICK ON IMAGE TO VIEW LARGE.

A large game (group) of Swans on the river Witham at Lincoln in Lincolnshire, England. Taken by my wife Heather from the canal narrowboat ‘Skye’ on our way to Boston. To get there we had to pass close to New York – all places named long before their American counterparts.
The River Witham is a delightful place to see all kinds of wildlife. I saw deer in the fields, a badger and a fox along with many birds.
The stone bridge in the background is the Glory Hole, one of the oldest bridges in the UK.

Fuji S5000 at 17.2mm, 1/280, f/4.6, iso160, manual.

What a great photo by Heather. Have you ever stopped to count how many swans are in this group? After living with black swans for 40+ years it’s a real joy to see proper white ones again!
    Take care
    Peter

  • Thank you Peter – I can count 37 Swans, one Duck and one ’ Old Boiler Chook ’ typing this message……Oh, OUCH Heather, that hurt ! Heather here Peter, thank you very much for your lovely comments on my photo and the whack serves him right……ha ha !

Beautiful shot, well done Heather, would like to visit there sometime xx

  • Thank you so much Lynn – it’s a lovely city to visit but you must also see Boston, it’s a great place. The only reason I took this photo was ’ him in charge ’ was driving so I shot forward to take the photo ! I’m no photographer though. Heather

Kudos to Heather ~ lovely scene and capture … have never been to Lincolnshire ~ looks nice there :)

  • Thank you Susie – as I said to Lynn – you must go and see Lincoln and Boston. There is also a road sign between Lincoln and Boston, close to the RAF Base Conningsby that says ’ Boston so many miles New York so many miles ’ a well photographed signpost. Finally, RAF Conningsby is the home of the ’ Battle of Britain ’ wing and has all those lovely old aircraft open to the public. You can sometimes see them flying as Roy and I did. Heather

A great shot, love all the white swans, I have never really got used to black ones! Love the way you lined it up through the arches Heather. The swans go on forever & I can just see the Elizabethan building above the bridge. I didn’t see enough of England when I lived there. A fave for me!

  • Many thans Rita ( from Heather ) We have had three trips to UK and we love it. That bridge with the houses on it, the Glory Hole – so named because in the early days, if a body was thrown into the river it finished up there ! Bit gory so that’s what it should have been named !

Heather needs a login of her own if she has many more like this beauty.

  • I have told her that and even offered my spare camera.
