Photograph taken from the old wharf looking towards this older part of Opua.
When I was at sea in the 50’s and 60’s cargo ships used to use the old wharf to load mainly chilled and frozen meat from the works at Moerewa. It arrived by rail and was loaded directly from the railway wagons on to the ships.
The wharf now is used purely for pleasure boats and the odd commercial fishing boat.
