I managed to take this photo while waiting to take the Pilot off the Chilean sail training ship ‘Esmeralda’ onto the pilot boat ‘Akarana’. way back in the 1980’s.
This lovely fully rigged sailing ship made a number of visits to Auckland, New Zealand over the years.

Pentax 30n 35mm film SLR. Print scanned and digitised.

Lovely picture, Roy! It kept well.

  • Thank you kindly David – lucky with this one, the album the print was in has quite a few rust spots around the edges of the pages.

I would love to see ships like this xx

  • Thank you Lynn – grab Susie and shoot off to Charlestown in Cornwall. There’s usually three or four old timers there – I don’t mean old sailors, I mean old ships……lol !

I particularly love the feeling of movement in this photo caused by the rippling of the water. It’s really alive! So glad it wasn’t taken by a modern day photographer who has to use slow shutter speeds on moving water – that would have completely spoilt the effect you have got.
Great piece of work, well preserved, scanned and presented.
    Cheers
    Peter

  • Thank you very much Peter – your kind words are always appreciated. Yes, I was pleased with the effect also.

What a beautiful ship … love the reflected lines ~ great capture and tones Roy :)

  • Thank you kindly Susie – I love the rippled water effect too ! The scanner kept wanting to mute the water so I had a battle with it and I won…….lol !

Quite a sight, Roy. A great shot from the archives… looks spectacular!

  • Thank you so much Sheila – so pleased you like it. Some of the archives are starting to suffer from rust so must digitise some more or lose them !

Beautifully presented Roy. This one goes back a bit.
    Myra

  • Thank you so much Myra for your kind comments and favourite. She is still around and was mentioned in the press a while back – the Chileans were keeping political prisoners tucked away on her !
