Three or four years ago only three of these lovely little birds frequented our area in Paihia, Bay of Islands, New Zealand. On my regular walk the other day I counted thIrty seven, each group has it’s own tree or lamp post to roost in. I guess that at some stage someone in the area has had doves as caged birds but they have either escaped or their owners have let them loose when leaving the area as they are not native to New Zealand.

I love the way he is looking down at you with great interest. “What’s this geezer up to?” is the question he is asking himself! LOL
Well taken Roy – crystal clear and no distracting surrounds. Great work mate!
    regards
    Peter

  • They are actually quite tame Peter and will sit and look at you ! Mind you, I’ve had some near misses from their rear ends…..lol !

Nice work Roy – looks like a little fella from these parts!

  • Many thanks Bob – Oh, do you have these in UK as well ? I think these originated from around West Africa across to Egypt, obviously smuggled in by an Egyptian carpet salesman……lol !

Great capture of this sweet little Dove Roy, they are such gentle little birds.

    Cheers Jude

  • Thank you Jude – I agree with you, they are gentle. They wander across the road here and unfortunately a few do come to grief as we live on a corner.

Great capture and perspective Roy ~ looks like they’ve found an ideal location!

  • Thank you very much Susie – yep, they can certainly pick em ! A mild climate, we’ve only had one frost here in eight years. Rains quite often but they don’t seem to mind and plenty of softies to feed them !

I think these are the ones we call collared doves…a pair landed here from europe in the 50’s and have now spread all over the country. Nice capture Roy
