We had heard so much about Blarney Castle it was a delight to actually see it in person. I did not kiss the Blarney stone – my wife lovingly said I was mouthy enough without it ……! We spent an hour or two here on our coach tour in 1997.

PENTAX – P30N 35mm camera.
From a faded print digitised and restored in black and white.

You SURE you didn’t kiss the Blarney Stone? Could have fooled me!!! A great piece of work getting this photo back up to scratch but I’m glad you did because I love old castles. I am descended from the original owners of Dudley Castle in Worcestershire. If you promise not to make any rude comments I can tell you that it is now a zoo! And a haunted one at that!
    Regards
    Peter

  • Fooled the wife too Peter !! I wouldn’t dream of commenting on your ancestors castle now being a ZOO!?! considering, Mossocke Hall ( old spelling of Massicks) is now a GOLF CLUB !

Well done on the restoration Roy. I was told I didn’t need to kiss the stone as well. Didn’t quite know how to take that.

  • Thank you very much Elaine. The difference between you and I is, you have the gift of the gab, I have the gift of the gob……lol !

beautiful work Roy… a lovely image.

  • Thank you so much Andrea – the old stone work on castles always seems to benefit from a tweak to bring out the atmosphere. The only things missing are the bats and ravens flying around…..lol !

I went to Cork for my son’s wedding, intending to do the tourist bit, l got sick and had to spend the week in hospital lol xx

  • Such a shame Lynn – good excuse to go back again ! It is one place you can’t afford to miss and looks just a good on a rainy day – dramatic !

Well, even if you didn’t physically go arse-over-teacup to smack that stone… you have that gift of gab. Me too, but you knew that. I’ve never seen this place, but it has always captured my imagination. And you’ve captured it, sure & begorrah, etc. Great work, Roy.

  • Thank you so much Sheila – re gift of the gab – Jamie thinks we both have the gift of the gob……lol !
I take that as a compliment, you should too.

Hah hah! Jamie has accused me of being ‘verbose’ more often than I can count, & such compliments only spur me on to greater glory. I take absolutely EVERYTHING as a compliment; life’s too short to do otherwise!

  • Give Jamie ’ stick ’ Sheila – he’s now accusing me of looking like one of his sheep……lol !
