Working on the rigging of the sail training ship ’ Spirit of New Zealand ’ at Auckland, New Zealand alongside the Maritime Museum at Princes wharf.
It has certainly changed since my days at sea – I never had the company of a lovely young lady like this when working aloft – I usually had some hairy deckhand with a personal hygiene problem !

I’m not surprised! To be honest I think I would have a personal hygiene problem if I had to go up there! Great photo Roy.

    Great shot Roy.

  • Many thanks Gary. This shot reminds me of an old sea ditty about the rigging but I promise I won’t sing it here !

Great image Roy, my problem would be more in the squeaky you know what department.

  • Thank you Alex – I used to love it, going up aloft but not any more due to my shape ! I can well remember an episode where my cabin mate had just stolen a string of sausages from the galley porthole and not having had a chance to hide them properly, stuck them down the waist of his shorts.
Well, there we were swinging around the top mast painting when a passenger spied three links of sausages hanging out of his shorts leg ! She squeaked and pointed and in a panic he took his deck knife, cut them off ! This produced even more mayhem ! Yes, there was a very nasty conclusion to this story for him.
