THE TIME and DATE – Near Midnight on the 10th July 1985.
THE PLACE – Auckland, New Zealand.
At this time the French were still conducting Nuclear tests in the Pacific ( any where else but in their own backyard ) and the Greenpeace flagship the “Rainbow Warrior” was berthed at Marsden Wharf in Auckland, New Zealand after making a nuisance of themselves around the area of the tests at Muraroa Atoll. It must have displeased the French President so much that he sent agents to blow the ship up. One crew member died in the explosion.
Not many photographs were taken on the day she was bombed and sunk. I have resurrected this photo from my files. As skipper of the Pilot boat at the time I was permitted through the Police cordon on the Pilot boat to take photographs. I had to use an old 35mm film SLR hence the grainy photo.
