This tauihu ( prow ) of the waka ( canoe ) highlights the difference between the old and the new with Auckland City and the Sky Tower in the background. The feathered decoration is called a ’ Piwari ’ but I cannot find if this has any tribal significance. As the Maori’s were great voyagers and navigators I think it may have been the aerial from an early GPS ( global positioning system ) – well this is my theory anyway…….lol !
This waka can transport up to seventy warriors.
