New Zealand’s oldest stone building, situated at Kerikeri on the Kerikeri Inlet, Bay of Islands.
Building dates from 1832 – 1836 and built by an ex-convict stonemason from new South Wales, Australia for the Wesleyan Missionaries. It was then passed into the hands of the Kemp family in 1929 and used as a general store.

Nice one Roy ..What a gorgeous location ..a really beautiful capture !!

  • Thank you very much Gail – it is one of the tourist favourites of the North Island.
it is better now than it used to be – they have demolished the road bridge over the river and replaced it with a footbridge, so no traffic. I am actually standing where the bridge used to be.

  • Oops Gail – I nearly forgot. Thank you also for the favourite.

Fine building with an important historical tale attached. And such a setting! Good work, Roy. Congratulations on the feature, too.

  • Thank you kindly Sheila – it is a bit quieter down there now since they demolished the road bridge. I am standing on the spot where the bridge used to be.
