Artist's Description

Tawharanui is a regional park approximately one and a half hours drive north from central Auckland on the North Island of New Zealand, It is situated near the township of Warkworth and is on a small peninsula extending into the Pacific Ocean.
Once a large farm It is now one of Auckland’s best kept secrets and not only a great swimming and surfing area but also a picnic paradise for young and old alike.
The tree is a Pohutukawa.

One of my wife Heather’s ancestors was shipwrecked on an American whaling ship called the ’ Noble ’ off the coast of New Zealand in 1846 and elected to stay in the country. In 1860 he bought a large plot of land adjoining where the regional park is today. Unfortunately, long sold out of the family.
