At first light on Wednesday 16th Feb. 2011 the new Cunard line Queen Elizabeth slipped quietly into the Bay of Islands, New Zealand and anchored just off Paihia.
This is the QE’s first visit to NZ making Bay of Islands it’s first port of call. The 90,900 tonne ship was carrying 2000 passengers, mainly British as the world cruise began in Britian. So, the retailers of Paihia would have been doing a brisk trade.
She sailed at 6pm on the same day for Auckland
to be followed by more southerly ports of NZ.
