Artist's Description

It doesn’t look as though I am going to get the picture I’ve been trying to get of the Tui on the flax bush at the front of our house. The flowers are drying up and the Tui seems to have lost interest. Two days ago the interloper Tui, a young male was sneaking a quick visit so I thought, right, you’ll do. I just had the shutter on the point of no return when the older and resident Tui flew in for an attack on the younger.
The young one came straight at me and I felt his wing brush the top of my head. I had the camera speed set at 650 – if I had known it was going to be an action shot I would have increased the speed by heaps.
If you look at the photo below you can actually see that rather wicked looking beak the New Zealand Tui has.
Best viewed large.

Lens set at 350mm.
