This gull is an immature black-billed gull -
( Larus bulleri ) and the head belongs to the daughter of a friend of ours. Photograph was taken at Tapotupotu Bay in the far north of the North Island, New Zealand. In fact another couple of kms and you would fall off the top of NZ at Cape Reinga.
It is actually rather a sad photograph as that year
it was such a mild winter that there were many more chicks survived than usual. They were starving as their parents couldn’t keep them fed.
They were hanging round our campsite and would actually come in to the tent looking for food.
