The launching of the nuclear submarine HMS Astute at Barrow-in-Furness,Cumbria, England on Friday the eighth of June 2007. It’s a shame the rubber band broke on the launching gear and the submarine had to spend a few days perched like this ! There are another two subs inside the shed in the process of being built. The size can be judged by the security guard standing on the after deck wearing the bright, dayglow jacket.
The day before this photograph was taken I was
nearly arrested when I took the same picture without the submarine, at the same time of day. A
security car roared up, skidded to a halt and two
large gentlemen jumped out and gave me a hard
time for taking photographs. Funny, as I took the
above picture there were at least a dozen people
taking pics also !

Great capture Roy,I’ve just come back from Haverigg and could see these buildings from across the bay.

  • Thanks Jamie – the silent ‘B’ and his son ‘C’ managed to get an invite for us both to the launching and Heather shook hands with

Camilla who was busting the champers bottle !

Great shot Roy, many fine evening shots taken from the same location. (I thought the security guys were going to dump your camera in the dock or dream up some other cunning plan for it!! Jobsworths from outside the area just brought in for the launch).
