Nothing of it Left Behind, RoyAllenHunt © June 15, 2010

All the wondrous things I planned
The travels in far and distant lands
The touching of others souls
With my heart and hands

The mysteries that I would explore
The high and low of what if and what for
The lovers that I would adore

The sights that I would let my eyes see
Wash over and caress so lovingly
hold forever in my memory
and shed tears for what used to be

The songs I’d sing, feeling in every breath
How I’d dance with meaning in every step
The wind of ecstasy I hoped to catch
Then to join the peace of those who slept

Of all the things I thought I did in life
I look back now only to find
There’s absolutely nothing of it left behind

The good thing about this is that you can start making that road where a legacy will be formed…this is inspiring writing brother..thank you for sharing.

  • I’m glad you can see the positive possibility in my retrospection. I appreciate that.

    Great writing!
All we ever really have is right now.
    Enjoy it!

  • Thank you Corri. Yes, all we have is now but we must not discount the moments, future tense, that are just beyond our reach while we still breathe.

Oh I agree with you completely. Yet, I’ve seen people destroy the possibilities of happy future moments while they clung to painful past moments reliving them in their minds, or even to past moments that were so good that nothing for them could compare. So maybe forging on is the moral.

  • Corri, you put it so succinctly. “forging on.” Life after all is an inexorable march even when our own machinations attempt to thwart or put it down. Who knows when life’s final moments come or if indeed, there are final moments. I guess what I’m trying to say is that each moment is like a lifetime in miniature to be lived for its own sake. And that which makes it with us to the next will help to season, for better or worse, what that coming moment might hold for us. Ah, there I go rambling with no destination clearly in sight. Please forgive me for that. I do appreciate the exchange.

Ramble all you want! Love it, and besides, it’s your page.
So eloquent the part about “each moment is like a lifetime in miniature to be lived for its own sake”.
That is living! Thank you for all the good thoughts.
