Come gather your belongs
though meager they be
with stealth we will go
by way of the water that flows to the sea
through the cavern beneath
to that place where the light comes in
There we must flee
and it is from there
that we shall leave free

Rembrant soft pastels conte crayon on Daler Canford Black Pad 12 × 16. Inspired by a photo I saw in the Smithsonian Magazine earlier this year. I always wonder if I can fairly approximate images I see without retouching in Photoshop. I was pleased with the finished project. The poem deposited in my head while I worked on this one or it might be my genetic memory at play.
