Derwent colored pencils, Rembrandt pastels and conte crayon on 18×24 Daler Black Pad, Canford Raven paper. The drawing is my interpretation of French painter, Alexandre-Marie Colin’s (1798-1875) “Othello and Desdemona.” Also, see, “The Madness of the King.” Hear the song below.
“That death’s unnatural that kills for Loving" Desdemona
THE WAKE
Albert Forssell © Dec 28, 2008
/Modified lyric RoyAllenHunt
a blatant lie / a running eye
itching of tears / Oh my dear
a glimpse I caught / of your hidden thoughts
present and near / that was my fear
covered in flames
buried in shame
a fatal mistake
join in the wake
in a spider’s web / a flower red
caught by the mold / that is my soul
An open chest / the heart at rest
shines just like gold / but it’s so cold, so cold
turned inside-out
a voiceless shout
dripping with pain
join in the wake
a dream in shards / she holds all the cards
the winning hand / and she sings
the queen is gone / she was the only one
who meant anything / without her I am no king
the silence is true
the blood’s running blue
fell the crown from my head
even the joker is dead.

Ushna, thank you so much for the feature. I’m glad the gore in the subject matter didn’t freak you out. The composer of the song that it was based on thought it a bit brutal.

Very dramatic, yet with a twinkle of humor, that takes away the edge, transforming energy. Congratulations to the feature, Roy! Must be one of the queens that have misused their power for self-gain and corruption, elected to serve the people, but just enjoys selfishly, promises and words in the wind….! Very symbolic painting and words! Christiane
Ah, the Marie Antoinette spin or mayhap today’s politicians. That’s an interesting take on this piece. Thanks for the visit and the comment.
