In My Garden
Words & Melody by RoyAllenHunt © August, 2011
(Based on the Minuet for Midi by John Bowen ©2011)

I walked through my garden picking flowers for you
discarding those I thought wouldn’t do

On my table they were lovingly displayed
Waiting for you to come like you said

I sipped tea by the window and kept watch on the path
But only the wind was stirring, alas

The sun was so high in my blue sky
moving through the hours till evening was nigh

Promises you made but ne’er were kept
empty as my soul felt as I sat there and wept

The flowers on my table are still displayed
Petals now fallen crumble where they lay
fallen my spirit these past several days…
How long it has been since you came this way

With winter settled in on my garden once green
trees are bereft — undressed of their leaves
A bitter, bitter cold resides within me
Here in my garden cold and lonely

In my garden the birds will ne’er again sing
no flowers will bloom and there’ll be no more spring
Here in my garden there’ll be no more spring
