I wanted to do something special for M.O.M. (My other Mom) with whom I share birthdays, March 14th. I had seen Van Gogh’s copy of a Japanese woodblock print done in oil. I thought if he could do it, so could I. Working from a 3 1/2 × 4” image, straining my old tired eyes, and using crayons, pastels, Wolff’s Carbon B and acrylic paints on my sketch pad, I completed this drawing in her honor.
The Japanese Kanji script on the left; I copied directly from the painting and cannot translate. Let’s say that it represents Health, Happiness, Love and Prosperity! On the right, the characters represent her name, Ruth Marie.
