Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

This one I had on my ‘to do’ list for a while, but I kept putting it off because I knew it was going to be a challenge.
Once I started it however, it eventually came together bit by bit.
It is my daughter Chloe being her naturally radiant and colourful self.
For the first time i used no blending tools; no tissue, no paper stumps. This is all done with pencil strokes only!!!

This is the one that the eye in Her Eyes Couldn’t Help But Be Drawn In… was the beginning of.

Completed 28th February, 2009.
Mechanical Graphite pencils 3H, HB & 2B on Reeves A3 white paper.

my daughter would love it but then I think she is younger than chloe

  • Simon Aberle replied

The kids don’t really comment on my drawings…I guess because they witness them coming together. They dont have the wow factor of seeing a finished piece for the first time.
Although My middle son, Ethan bragged to my brother that he drew this, and the response from my brother – “You Wish”

Patience? You say I have patience?! This one done with no blending tissue or stumps seems the epitome of patience to me. Wonderful piece. Thanks for the kind words.

  • Simon Aberle replied

My pleasure. Your work is superb :)
I was very tempted to use blending techniques, as i do in all of my other work, but I wanted to challenge myself!

Wow … awesome job simon. When I first looked I just laughed as it captures that “fun” aspect so well… then I looked some more at the detail… the rendering is amazing! Chloe’s features really pop from the paper. It really radiates her child-like essence. Which is probably why she is embarrased. All kids want to be grown up. I’m sure she we love it when she gets older though. Well done mate!!

  • Simon Aberle replied

Thanks so much Matt, I really appreciate your detailed comments :)

Sime , Your work getting better and better with each posting, WOW… I love the emotion, the laughter, and the style you used here! Drawing all lines takes longer and even though to blend with a tool is tempting, you get far better results as I showed you here. WELL DONE!!

  • Simon Aberle replied

    Thanks!
It was YOU that inspired me to try to not use blending tools!
    I can’t guarantee that I won’t go back, but I’ll try to persevere :)

    this is great,
i want to do like this, but i always run out of patience
and go to draw very fast, but im now working on one very slowly
to see what it gets, i hope you will come to take a look at my gallery
    it will be my honour

  • Simon Aberle replied

    Thanks mate.
It’s just a bit at a time, a couple of hours a night.
If I rush it, it will look rushed, and I wont be happy with the result because i feel like I have wrecked it.
I have looked at your gallery and you have some impressive work there my friend!

  • Simon Aberle replied

    I’m honoured ;)
how did I get an honorable mention win when I didn’t make it into the top ten?

  • abfabphoto

    abfabphoto

Well thats our point exactly. We choose one image that we think is fantastic, despite that image not getting enough votes to place in the top 10, but we still want to feature it, so we call it a “honorable mention”!! :)

    CONGRATS!!

  • Simon Aberle replied
