Let me introduce myself…Roxane Bay.
I was born in Toronto Ontario Canada.
I inherited my love of photography from my mother who once had a thriving photo studio in St-Georges de Beauce, Québec. My entertainment as a young girl was sifting through the myriad of photos that my mother accumulated over the years. I remember the old “Black Magic” chocolate boxes that she stored them in. I can still smell the chocolate.
As I grew up and had children of my own, I spent time photographing and detailing their lives. I took art courses, as well as traditional folk crafts such as weaving and quilt making while living in Quebec. These trades I learned from the elders. I moved back to Toronto in the 80’s and enrolled in a photography course at George Brown College. After a few years I decided that I needed more knowledge on the art of photography. I enrolled in a certificate program at Humber College in Photographic Techniques which I’ve graduated with Honours in 2009.
I have enjoyed during the summer of 2007 & 2008 touring Nova Scotia and documenting lighthouses. I am moving to Nova Scotia late summer 2009 and I will continue documenting the remainder of the 164 documented lighthouses on and around Nova Scotia. I was fortunate to have met Rip Irwin founding member and former president of the Nova Scotia Lighthouse Preservation Society. Rip is as well an avid photographer, who lives in Bible Hill Nova Scotia who was a gracious host during my visits and helped me with my research.
