Disney's "African cats"

Always in love with Africa fauna and big cats, I knew I should watch Disney Pictures 2011 documentary titled “African cats: The kingdom of courage”.

Actually, a couple of days ago, I met a friend and his family. All the young children were in love with the movie and couldn’t resist the pleasure to tell me all about this movie they loved. But, boy! was I in for a surprise: They described me animals I could personally recognize!

As a matter of fact, I was in the Masai Mara in September 2008 when Disney Pictures shot the movie. So, I actually met some of the most prominent animals in the movie. Fang, the old lion who is chased out of his pride (I’ll post a portrait of him in a few days); Sita, the cheetah mother with her five cubs (she lost two of them to cheetahs, as…

Calendars

I start to get it. My first calendar last year was a rather difficult (and long) task. Now, I start to understand the process better.

There is still the issue of finding 13 homogeneous and interesting images.

The story of 3 pictures

Talking with friends about the latest three images I published here, I decided to publish on my blog a few explanations of how I made them, trying to draw advice out of this experience.

Story of three photos, 10 tips

Also in French:

Histoire de trois photos : 10 conseils

The location,
The time,
The weather,
The frame,
The composition,
The final steps (post-production),
Luck.

Those are the most important steps in making a few pictures I really loved to shoot and print.

Masai Mara

Friends of mine know that I spent nearly two weeks in Kenya (in Masai Mara National Reserve). I was in photo safari.

Now, I nearly finished the sort of images. I am ready to start publishing some of them (the best of them?) here.

Here come the big cats (some on http://www.YLoveBigCats.com/en/), the elephants, the vultures, the eagles, the ant-eaters, the jackals, the leopards, the crocodiles, the gnus/wildebeests and zebras. And many more, I hope.

Day after day, here.

Métro, collages, déchirures - The calendar

I finally succeeded in creating the calendar I wanted.

Please, click on calendar below to preview a low quality PDF version of the calendar.

To order, purchase a RedBubble Gift Certificate for 19.50€ (or equivalent) then bubblemail me the gift certificate code and your delivery address.

If you prefer to slightly modify the contents of the calendar, please, just tell me. My other images could easily replace the pages already defined (I’ll make it according to your choice, isn’t it great?).

Delivery time is approximately 10-17 days.

Métro, collages, déchirures

I just created a calendar (for 2009) that I think should be interesting for people in love with all kinds of artistic alterations.

Images taken from the Paris metropolitan railway (le Métro) in a station under heavy repair. It brought images from the past (probably 20 years ago or more) through the remains of previous decors and acts of cultural vandalism that easily make me think of the slogans of the “Mai 68” near-revolution in the streets of Paris.

Even shooting the photos seemed out-this-world: Silently and slowly walking the station with another photographer (we did not even exchange a word), while the people around us were waiting for their train trying not to notice the flash lights. It could not have been a more troubling experience, going from an unstuck paper to a po…

Le Mans - Les 24 heures

It was the first time I went to such an event: Yesterday, I was in Le Mans (France) and I had the pleasure to spend a few hours around the race track during the qualification runs.

Two images uploaded after that. You can judge by yourself. But it was quite interesting to try and catch cars racing at speed that go well over 300km/h (you need to choose well your photo spot to avoid that danger for the photographer) and to take advantage of the many colors and shiny cars that are splatered all over the place.

Paris

While Paris is supposed to enter Summer, we had only grey skies and rain. The next stop for me will have to be in Botswana next month.
