This is a great shot Ralph, well done.
Ralph Olsson replied
Cheers garth. I had to delete the first one because i had two background trees sticking out of the middle of the water :(

Martin Plaza….......in the bush!!
Post jabs, and I’m in there!!
Cool looking trough, Ralph!!
Ralph Olsson replied
Cheers mate…it stinks bad!!! This is the breather and recirculator for Wonga Wetlands.
Jono Winnel
Wow great texture on the rocks. Strange photo, in that it has a soothing natural waterfall feeling, yet it looks like a man made structure and it fits awkwardly into it’s setting. I love it.
Ralph Olsson replied
Cheers mate…it’s just a re-breather and recirculator for the wetlands….stinks too:))
JennyMac
Very interesting this one is Ralph… beautiful and kinda surreal really.. hmmm… very interesting… : )
Ralph Olsson replied
LOL!!! Lost for words there jenny? It has a surreal effect because of the contrasts in tone and because its set against a bland background:))
DeviousLili
Wow …
Ralph Olsson replied
Thanks steph:))
Elysia Ranking
Haha did ya? Kool :)
OldBirch
A rebreather?? I’m going to have to look that up.
It’s looks surreal because it looks man made, but it also looks like it’s in the wilderness. Very bizzare looking, but beautiful. Excellent shot!
Ralph Olsson replied
LOL!!! The wetlands need oxygen and this sort of perculates and adjusts the water and stops stagnant water:))
Ralph Olsson replied
Here’s a link
to the wetlands:))

Andrew Murrell
wow! Ralph this is amazing. the DOF is great and without seeing the Colour version I cannot be sure But I feel that B&W is the best presentation. Gonna have to try shooting mono in the camera
Ralph Olsson replied
Cheers mate. I can’t shoot these shots in colour because the filters i use give off a reddish/pruple colour cast and i don’t use post-edits so i couldn’t clear the colours. I only use the graduated filters for colours. Acutally, mono is better for me because i see these shots in black and white ( i know it sounds corny) but that’s how i was taught – besides, some subjects just lend themselves to mono.
The 300 would do well with B&W. If you can bump up the contrast to the highest level in camera, then shoot at that:))
Ralph Olsson replied
Another trick with mono – actually, i use it on all my shots – (sorry to tell you to suck eggs if you already do this) – i zoom in on the subject as far as possible, hold the shutton button/remote button down, recompose, and then shoot and i always get sharp as shots:))
Peter Zentjens
Very strong black & white! Fantastic composition and great use of shutter speed
Ralph Olsson replied
Thanks stacks mate:)) I appreciate your time and comments:))
JennyMac
Smarty pants… lol!! : )) PS. lapping up the great tips you’ve given Andrew. Question… I shoot raw usually and recently I was shooting mono in camera but when I downloaded them to the computer they were colour (obviously because raw keeps all the info). But that meant I had to convert… So is there any point shooting mono if shooting raw? The last time I shot mono the camera was set at raw & jpeg. Hmmm… still learning…. : )
Ralph Olsson replied
Not really…best to stay with the conversion unless you want to go to the trouble of purchasing stacks of filters – spending $6000 on photography training; spending hours deleting the rubbish shots you take where the tone is crap – despite the h-gram saying otherwise; then amid all this, wishing you had a darkroom and a nice film camera again (which by the way i could have afforded if i had ditched all the other stuff) and then sit back and watch with envy the brilliant tones other people can get throughy conversion and wonder what the hell are you going through this cokin rubbish for!!!!
There are times when i struggle; when i wonder why the hell i don’t just convert to B&W; I guess at the end of the day, it is all about what You feel most comfortable with and no one should tell you otherwise really…:)) You do great work Jenny…if it ain’t broken…!

what is that thing, it doesn’t look like a fountain in a garden?
Ralph Olsson replied
LOL!!! It helps regulate Wonga Wetlands ( water flow from the water table).

genaro1
well done
Vikram Franklin
Stunning work! I love the sharpness from the foreground and how the blur on the froth has added so much light to this recirculator (had to look that up – especially as this looked so out of place – like a man-made object in the middle of wilderness)
Ralph Olsson replied
Cheers mate…it looks disgusting when it isn’t running…but not bad like this…it just helps with the health and flow of the system at Wonga wetlands:))
Simone Byrne

Another brilliant offering Ralph, well done.
Simon Whittaker
I would have walked stright past this and wondered what the hell you were looking at if we had been shooting together. Thats what makes the difference mate and it is a hallmark or your work. If I could suggest a slogan for you it would be along the lines of “Ralph Olsen, shooting the seemingly banal and making it into art”.
Ralph Olsson
You have me laughing my guts up mate…you champ!!! And no, you would have grabbed it too:)) Except i would have forced you deeper into the sake territory LOL!!!
