Golden moth orchid (Diuris chryseopsis)
So happy to see these in Belgrave South again… have been watching the spot and thought the owners had mown them! When I was photographing yesterday the owner walked over to have a chat and walked on several on his side of the fence! He thought the flowers looked pretty so hadn’t mowed them… he’s got no idea of what he has… and that is the only good stand of these on the whole SE side of Melbourne!!!! LOL, he promised to leave them for “about 4 weeks”.... arrrhhh!!! He has had a great little colony of Greenhoods by the look of it, they are finished now but there are heaps of “leaves” coming up all over his front nature strip… he says he doesn’t mow on the Courtney’s road side any more, the CFA use it as a “parking bay” during summer so there is hope for the ones there…
Not necessarily rare but very limited in this area
Taken with my Lumix, as a farewell outing before being retired to my daughter… no more macro for it LOL

Gorgeous photo, Rosie. Love the shape and colour, and the small amount of red really lights them up!

An interesting story to go with a nice pic.
Some plants are wasted on the ignorant.
Rosie Appleton replied
They so are… it’s a shame, and he wasn’t interested in being “enlightened” when we offered to tell him what he had!!!!
