Death in the Landscape
Montage
A composite of two original works including the painted bleeding tree and the figure. Worked in Photoshop with gradients and contrasts to simplify the vision of tree damage and harm our beautiful gum trees in Australia suffer in drought and salinity affected landscapes.

It’s a kind of wounding, grieving, crying out image of fine intensity, rosepepper. Again, a great feeling in your work for strong color, and the excellent prospective of the objects seems to flow so naturally from you, always on target and never contrived. The primary colors are used by you to such great advantage. And beautiful hues on the tree trunk, exactly right, and in the center, a surprise of transparency. Well done.

Thanks Barbara. Your critiques are just the best…. much better than art college where hard hitting blows knocked me into shape and made me think before constructing an image. This bleeding tree was sitting there for a long time wanting something more…..and i do luv gum trees and hate to see them like this -dead and dying. Layouts and placements are so much easier to manipulate digitally and dare I say, correct and fix up. The gradients are not something I can paint well and so transparency is another digital machination.

I adore the red in the trunk, it looks like a fire is burning from inside the tree and outside it seems to be raining—there is hope yet for the ghost gum rosepepper.
Is the figure a sketch that you have montaged into the painting?

yes the figure has been changed and another one montaged in its place…..yeah I guess landowners are becoming more conscious of the ecosystem and nature’s delicate balance and planting rather than clearing will be the go. Thanks Sarah.
