Ghosts of sheep shorn were certainly present in this historic, now abandoned, shearing shed in a remote area of NSW (south of Bathurst, access via a 4WD track and by foot across a pristine creek which still holds gold for those with the stamina and patience to pan for it … ). Thank you Jeff – you certainly get A+ as a tour guide!

I suffer from viewfinder vision (find myself visualising a frame around everything I see) so my genre is “anything that moves and most things that don’t”!!
I don’t so much wish to document places and things, as to evoke feeling and emotion.
This leads to a diverse portfolio and constantly overloaded external hard drives…not to mention some burning of the midnight oil as I keep looking for that elusive perfect process for yet another ‘masterpiece’!!!

Wow! brilliant work Rosalie (& Jeff) … did it still have the wool smell … how that brings back memories. Top shot♥
I shot a handwritten note on the wall which said last shearing was 1995 – so it was surprising that it did have that faint smell (which sure did bring childhood memories flooding back!).

Lovely composition Rosalie. The colours and textues are wonderful.
Thank you for sharing your artwork with the Photomatix HDR Group!
Clive, thank you. Glad you like it.

Glad you were rewarded with such a gem to photograph after the long trek (not tempted to pan for gold on the way back to cover the costs?)
The light is just superb Rosalie and just love the shades of the blue sitting dominantly in the centre as the interesting array of lines move in directions all around it each time bringing the eye back to that gorgeous blue.
Hey Stu … there was a bit of panning done in fact, but the shallows didn’t yield anything! We may have done better casting a line for trout actually! The shed gates were made of recycled timber and each one has wonderful colours and textures. So pleased it appeals to you … thanks heaps for the lovely encouragement.

Rich deep colours makes this a lovely image.
The area had so many abandoned shacks etc … one could spend a week and never be bored. Thanks Warren (we discussed how to get you back to Aus while there, acually!!)

Interesting lighting Rosalie. Looking good.
Possibly more the HDR than lighting Bill, although these old buildings had some bits missing which did allow air and the elements in!

I was a roustabout in a shearing shed a few years ago, I hate how they treat sheep, that’s another story….. Lovely capture Rosalie, this shed is pretty clean, the best compost comes from under those boards, great image :o)xox
Josie you would have been in your element … I just wished I could have bottled the air, the ambience, the whole place, and brought it home! The shed, being raised up, doesn’t have the animals running rampant through it as others around here did … and it was a pretty strong and fairly intact structure. From memory shearers always ran clean sheds when I was a kid! Thanks for the lovely visit. xx

Great textures and fantastic blue color you have captured there Rosalie!
So different to have that coloured gate – they are all usually just dirty wood. Thanks for the visit and encouragement Thordis. x

Thanks for the honour Philip!

looks like it was a productive trip
Heaps of photos Philip – although for once I was probably just as keen to take in the peace and serenity as I was to capture images. Boiling a billy by the creek and panning for gold is not something I get to do every day!

I knew this was a great shot when I saw the in-camera shot & I knew you would give this just the right amount of treatment. I love the depth & the lighting was just perfect playing on that blue door to make it stand out against the rest of the shed in this frame. It was a great day out there & am glad you came out with me, it was a real pleasure to show you one of my Haunts that you showed so much interest in. Will have to make another day down at my shack & mineshafts along the way, hopefully with that stunning mist hanging about
You are kind Jeff – thank you. If it weren’t such a remote spot wiith padlocked gates and permission required, I’d be sneaking back to become a squatter I suspect! Thanks also for adding this to your favourites … I’m honoured
