Our infamous bushranger, Ned Kelly, has always had my sympathy – I do believe I understand his reaction to circumstances surrounding his family!!
On my recent road trip back from Melbourne, I called in at Glenrowan – 25 kilometres from Benalla. One of the attractions is a huge Ned Kelly statue and a museum called Kate’s Cottage, which has all sorts of interesting artifacts on display. It depicts how the Kelly family lived, and shows a replica of Kelly’s suit of armour, weapons and items of the era. (Photos were taken with verbal permission …)
Those with soft hearts can block their eyes while I point out the kangaroo skins on the floor – a very common ‘mat’, or even, stitched together, bed cover in the pioneering days.
