Softly Version II
SEcond version – following Boz’s suggestion, cropped to allow the waterfall to fill the frame (and also remove a lighter distracting rock!)
exp: 0.250s
ap: f16
ISO: 160
WB: Auto
No polarizer (perhaps a mistake as is was sunny)
Hand held
It was a tad overexposed but RAW processing worked a treat.
Softly Version II belongs to the following groups:

Excellent picture Rosalie, exposure time worked well on this one, congrats :)
~Shepy
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Thanks Richard – it was only 1/4 of a second but that is enough when you are without a tripod!

Warren Williams
WOW the crop has made a difference, fantastic, “Waterfalls” top of the pops
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
I think we have to bow to Andrew Bosman’s superior experience with waterfalls – filling the frame sure seems to work. Nice to learn from other people’s experience!!! THanks Warren.
Julie Just
Well done on the exposure with this photo, especially so without a tripod. Love the crop!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Julie thank you – I notice you have waterfalls in your portfolio also! Thank you for favouriting this shot – much appreciated
Madeline M Allen

Gerda Grice
Right on exposure and very pretty colours and composition!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Gerda – welcome to redbubble, and thank you for taking time to comment on my waterfall!!! Very much appreciated. (Love your shot entitled “Style” – super photo!)
Dennis Gay
G’day Rosalie,
This is sooooo MUCH better!!!!!
You are now showing us the subject of the photograph ie the little waterfall, concentrating the eye on what is really impartant in your original scene.
Your slow shutter speed has worked a treat rendering a lovley softness to the water without any blown out highlights and combined with your aperture, focus and focal point, a great depth of field that covers the image from front to back.
Beautiful hues of green and brown gives this a real forest feel.
Nicely done!

Dennis
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Thanks Dennis – I was holding my breath waiting for you to object to the reed slap in the middle of the photo – if you did, would’ve suggested you take your little spade and help yourself!!! It was a looooong way away! I appreciate your informed comments mate.
Maximus
your good, very good. :)
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Trying to do what I’m told for once Maxie (now wait for the responses on that one!!)
Noelene Davies
Stunning Rosalie. It is surprising what we can learn from some one else.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
I’m always open to suggestion Noelene – it’s how I got from happy snapper, to at least moving off ‘auto’ for my pics now!!! Thanks for the kind words.
Craig Shadbolt
This is an awesome shot Rosalie! Very subtle blurring and colours – I love it.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Thanks Shaddy – good to hear from you – thought you had gone awol!!!!
Sharon Hammond
Beautiful work Rosalie. You sure do have a steady hand
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
It’s more holding my breath and staggering around for a few minutes afterwards, than having a steady hand Sharon! I probably should have found a rock to lean on. Thanks heaps.
Maximus
Since when?:)
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
I’m learning buddy, or getting more cunning maybe!
Maximus
Do we ever really learn, or just fake it to avoid fights! :)
Phil Thomson IPA
Excellent, Excellent, Excellent, Maestro!!! So peaceful, Calming and Serene, not just the water but the colour of the atmosphere!!!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Pleased it appeals Phil – thank you. It sure is a nice spot.
GailD
RSI again. Yes it does look great. The waterfall is the focal point now & more detail can be seen in it. The shutter speed you used worked well.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Thought I’d weild the surgeon’s knife and upload it – I like both but tis is certainly less distracting. Thanks Gail.
Brett Keith
Gorgeous work Rosalie…The greens are great, top shot
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Ta Brett – thanks for taking time to encourage!!!
Bill Fonseca
Wow Rosalie, that looks like a Boz special. I quite like the square crop on this image. Great image.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Not about to rival the Bozman yet Bill – thanks for the compliment!
Richard Shepherd
Im impressed that this was done without tripod, 1/4 would have my image looking like the camera was attached to a jackhammer if it was hand held:P

Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Thank you NuhSarche. You are kind.
margo
Hi Rosalie, I love ‘em both. This one focuses more on the waterfall, and the other has that nice fringe of leaves to frame it. After revisiting the other for a second look I thought I’d comment here expecting a shorter page of comments to scroll down – ha, how wrong I was. Great processing, they both look terrific.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Margo the long page of comments on both is as much a surprise to me as to you!! Thanks for persevering and for your kind words. I like both for different reasons also. I could take waterfall pics outside my house at the moment – rain bucketing down and gutters overflowing AGAIN!!
Jeff Burns

It’s such a peaceful scene. The capture has great colour and clarity, and the water looks mystical.

The pleasures mine! I just love this Redbubbling , being able to swap images, thoughts and complements, gives you a real warm glow!! Will no doubt be seeing more of your work and look forward to it. All the best, Dave
Kofoed
Can’t believe this is hand-held, Rosalie. My hands are not that steady.
I’ve seen them both, this is by far the better one. Incredibly well cropped. Amazing amount of details. Wonderful warm green colours. Isn’t RAW nice? It’s good to keep RAW shots a little over-exposed, there’s much more information to work with in lighter photos.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
You are kind Kofoed – I’m keen to try more waterfalls now but while we have had HEAPS of rain I’d have to travel a distance to find one! The other thing that is kind are those particular ferns – they are a vibrant green. Thanks my friend.
H. Lee
I like this version better. :)
Rosalie Dale IPA
Thank you!
Jeri Dettenheim
