Love . . .

Rosalie Dale IPA

Love . . .

There are very few Cambodians left in this older agegroup after Pol Pot wiped out the majority of the older generation . Here we have a great great grandmother hoping our charity van will provide something for the child.

I needed to review my photos from this trip this week – and I was again reminded of their courage, and our complacency. Probably a good time of the year (Christmas) to review priorities!!!

Taken with my Olympus P&S and treated in PS.

So powerful!! There is quiet resignation in her eyes – like if she is not expecting much, but for the sake of the child…...?
    Superb

Wow rapid fire comments – thank you all! They are fiercely determined (have to be!) and especially on behalf of the kids – they know the future of the country depends on the young ones. We were able to give them gifts but the main thing is reassurance that the rest of the world has not forgotten them. Soap and trinkets and a pair of thongs don’t go far … but hope and love and even touch, gives them something to hang onto!! Thanks midzing, Shauna and Carisma.

Fantastic image and too right, the world can be a very complacent and uncaring place! Thankfully there are good people like yourself to keep us all pointed in the right direction. Well done Rosalie.

Thanks heaps Boz – powerful emotions behind this one!
Lisa – thank you!! I did offer to go as the photo/journalist this year – it is hard taking pics as well as doing the ‘charity’ thing – can’t do justice.
Robert people actually return from these trips unable to talk about the experiences for a while. It is life changing.
Craig I suspect everyone is ‘good’ when it comes to the plight of people of the developing countries – I was just privileged to go there…and the rest of us need a reminder from time to time. Thanks buddy.

This is what photoraphy is all about, a rude awaking to reality.. we need to get our prioities in check…...and yes this is a good time of year. Well done, this is awesome….......I spent three months in and around Calcutta, India. All with film cameras…....shame….. my records are on film or slides….

Rosalie, how true is that a “picture can say a thousand words”. Unfortunately in this case the thousand of words would refer to misery and cruel reality.
    Powerful image!

Someone has commented (a) the lady’s stick planted in the ground demonstrates her determination and purpose and (b) the generations here also could apply to the New and Old Year!!! People are certainly seeing a lot in this image – more than I had imagined. Thank yuou Penny for your time and comment.
