Dust storm ... Cootamundra
Taken during a dust storm recently, from Salt Clay Road, looking back over Cootamundra in the Riverina District of NSW. (It is a change to be shooting in dust instead of mist!)
Cootamundra is possibly most well known for being the actual birthplace of cricket legend Sir Donald Bradman. It also lends its name to the Cootamundra Wattle – the town is abloom in July and August when these trees are in full flower.
HDR image processed in Photomatix from a single jpeg (x 3 at 1/3 ev) and finished in CS3.

Super shot Rosalie and your HDR treatment sets it off beautifully. We spent a couple of nights here back in ‘83 and I remember then being thrilled to think I was actually in the town where Sir Donald was born. Later in the year we found ourselves at Bowral and I just HAD to walk out on to the cricket ground!! LOL Peter
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
I lived in Coota for about 12 years, and have often visited the Bowral oval and walked onto it also!! Thanks for the encouraging words Peter.
Jan Piller
Beautiful shot – great contrast Rosalie! That’s a really interesting tree!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
The tree made the shot for me – thanks Jan

Great shot Rosalie, lov the sky color and the tone of the fore ground.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Thanks a lot Paul – used to live up this road on a smaller farm so it was a nostalgic hour or so (SharonD lives a bit behind where I was standing!) ... must confess these duststorms weren’t so frequent as they seem to be now.

Gorgeous shot, Rosalie. Fantastic lighting and colors ….....suprising during a dust storm. They look awful! Many congratulations!!!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
It was such fine dust Sue – not the gritty stinging duststorms I’ve experienced in the past. Quite different to take photos in, that’s for sure! Your kind words are appreciated.
Deidre Cripwell
Amazing shot
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Thank you Deidre
Barbara Brown
Fabulous Rosalie!! The tones really set the mood!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Glad you like it Barbara – thank you

What fantastic light you caught here! I never would have thought it was HDR….here the colours are soft and pleasant (HDR usually tends to be arsh and too bright) Lovely one Rosalie!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Ahhh HDR is what you make of it Carisma! So much of it is “overcooked” – even this is a little moreso than usual for me but the image wasn’t cooperating too well … HDR is not always suitable for every shot! I am so glad you like it – thank you for taking time to call by and comment.

Chookas adgray for adding this to your favs!!

This turned out so well Rosalie. I wasn’t sure how dust (fog, mist etc.) would go in HDR.
Yes the dust storms are common of late. No doubt drought related.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
I am not usually happy with HDR and misty type shots but this one just made it, I think! I had to work at not allowing to get the ‘plastic’ look!! Hopefully your bit of rain will lay the dust to rest.
justrick
very interesting capture and treatment, works well, cheers rick
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
It is not easy to get interest into a dirty shot like this Rick – I was grateful for that dead tree!
Michael Matthews
Most people would see a dust storm as a damn nuisance but you’ve made it a work of art. Nice one !
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Well, I guess in a way it isn’t much different to a mist – albeit a dirty one – Michael! Pleased you like it.
Josie Jackson
Lovely composition Rosalie, great lighting and colour, love it
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Thanks Josie (how’s the cold? It is bad enough here – Tassie must be in single figures!)
