Manly Beach ~ No 1
“Seven miles from Sydney, a thousand miles from care” is how they bill Manly Beach, on the northern side of Sydney Harbour. This is one of my favourite places for ‘people watching’! If you are there long enough you will see everying from a man in a tux to topless bathers.
See if you can spot the cameraman, and the laid back angler in this scene.
Most people associate the area with stunning beach and water scenes, however it also boasts and hosts heritage buildings, cycleways and walkways, unique underwater ‘residents’ (if you are into subaquatic activities!), events such as Jazz , Food and Wine Festivals, and weekly outdoor markets as well as museums, art galleries, buskers and ‘sand sports’ (men’s beach volleyball is ideal practise for action photography – the blokes probably prefer the ladies’ teams!!). Fish ‘n chips on the beach is a must.
A stroll along The Corso takes you to the ‘wharf end’ where you can find the most amazing gelato bar with flavours to die for. You haven’t experienced Manly to the full until you’ve sat with legs hanging over the edge of the wooden wharf, juggling a massive dripping waffle cone in one hand while fending off seagulls with the other. This of course is accompanied by the sight, sound and smell of our famous old ferries as they come and go. I often wonder how the colourful kayaks manage to glide in and around these giants of the harbour without serious incident!

Along with Bondi Beach, Manly is one of “The” places to visit when you are a tourist in Sydney – I’ll take you there when you visit!!!

Beautiful image Rosalie, I enjoyed your write up about it!!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
It is the best place to visit – always something going on. This visit was with GailD and Warren Williams last March … not the busiest day – in full summer this is wall to wall people. Thanks for the kind words Marvin

Actually I think I could have been waiting for you my friend! It was taken on the visit with you and Gail last March. I am digging out some shots for the Australian Travel Photography and Writing Group …

Beautiful image as usual RD, however I’ve always found that Manly has far too many old people & poofs for me. :)
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
I love it Max – I guess I can get lost in the motley crowd and just observe … sometimes that’s really relaxing!!!

Great image of one of our “famous” beaches Rosalie!! Looks so inviting!!*-)
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
I guess if the surf were higher it would be more spectacular photographically Deb but this was a really relaxing day – no huge waves, no big happenings, just the sun, surf, and some laid-back lookers!
