Granny Hunter
I came across this very old photograph recently of my great grandmother and one of her daughters (I do suspect it was a firm belief that cameras would break if anyone smiled in days gone by!!!) – so combined it with Granny’s favourite book, The Bible, and an old rose in another attempt at creating a nostalgic image.

How wonderful ….I just love the colour….It’s started!!!!!!!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Thanks for the lovely compliment Traceyanne!!! (Can’t wait!!)
Tom Gomez
Great old picture, I love these …
Actually, the reason for not smiling in photographs in days of yore is that dental hygene was pretty poor then and most people had bad teeth …
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Hey Tom I didn’t think of the teeth problem! What a practical answer to the conundrum. Thanks for the kind words buddy.
Catherine Davis
Gorgeous photo, yes, very nostalgic!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Thank you Catherine very much
Maximus
Ah, more of your majic, lovely. :)
Rosalie Dale IPA replied

Murray Swift
Well done! The parchment in the background looks good too. You HAVE created a nostalgic image.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Pleased you like it Murray – the parchment look is from a textured overlay which has been reduced in opacity to give the aged look.
Noelene Davies
Wow Rosalie this is fantastic.Love the colour and capture. And yes you are so right about them smiling I have old photos around this place and none of the people are smiling.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Noelene you should try some still lifes with your old pics! It is quite challenging but very rewarding! Thanks for the lovely encouragement
Phil Thomson IPA
Perfect, Rosalie !!! This is a very special memory that you have created and captured; a wonderful heritage, both earthly and Spiritually !!!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Gave myself a bit of a challenge Phil – hard to get the Bible in effectively and still focus on the photo – however, I wasn’t too disappointed with the end result. Thanks for the lovely words mate.
Sarah Moore
LOL – which daughter – she had a few!!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
They sure knew how to create large families in those days Sare!! This was Marj (Kable). Not sure if I can see any family resemblance …?!!!
Kitsmumma
Lovely composition and feel to this image. Nice work.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
So pleased you like it Kitsmumma … thank you
georgieboy98
Great work Rosalie and I love these very old photos. I agree that it wasn’t the done thing to smile – I think the exposures were way too long for anyone to hold a smile anyway. You have set this scene just beautifully. Peter
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Again there are at least 100 shots in a file that didn’t make the grade! These are quite challenging – even then, there’s usually a bit of cloning and fiddling to do … thanks for the encouragement Peter.
Ellen
Very beautiful done Rosalie!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Thank you Ellen!
Andrew Bosman

Another great one Rosalie. Very nostalgic. You’ve achieved you’re goal.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Some of these set-up shots are like giving birth to a child – a long and painful process, but worth it in the end! Thanks Gail.

Jan Piller
It’s lovely Rosalie! Nice job! It looks exactly like my grandfather’s bible and pictures also – you’re right – they didn’t seem to enjoy having their images captured. Times sure have changed!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
I cheated a bit Jan and used my own Bible – it was tatty enough I thought! Pleased you feel it achieves the aged look …
Dennis Gay
G’day Rosalie,
Another powerfully nostalgic image you have created here as a great addition to your fine series.
The items themselves tug at the heart strings and your arrangement and conposition brings out the very best view.
Photographed and processed very well indeed.
Great work that girl! Encore!

Rosalie Dale IPA replied

Rosalie this is wonderful. Just shows why it’s good to keep things, [what an excuse or hording] hehehe ] amazing if people could have know how these photos would have ended up showing around the world.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
You are right – firstly I hoard outrageously!!! Secondly these people would have had no idea where their images would end up! How the world changes …
