Little boxes . . .
How long have these council flats been a landmark on the Sydney-city skyline? I can remember them from at least 40 years ago, and they don’t seem to have changed a bit over all those years!

Nice one Rosalie! I’m pretty sure I know where these ones are…
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Thanks Shaddy – taken from The Bridge – I’m sure you’d recognise it!
Warren Williams
Well spotted, interesting subject.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
You walked past this Warren on your visit – across The Bridge.
Phil Thomson IPA
Excellent find, well photographed and beautifully edited, Rosalie !! A perfect title !!!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Little boxes, made of ticky-tacky?!! Shows my age a bit. Thanks so much Phil for the visit and kind words.
Murray Swift
I like the little park on the roof!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
I have another pic of a lower building’s roof – complete with swimming pool and bathers … make the most of what you have, I guess! I’m all for whatever helps in those living conditions! Thanks Murray my friend.
Loreto Bautist...
The Architecture of yesteryears…boxes are what they’re called today, but surely they’re a character in their own rights. Well spotted & a great shot.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
They certainly served (and still serve!) a good purpose Bot – I would find it very difficult to live there though!
Will Barton
Classic style of ‘modular’ architecture. They’re great to look at Rosalie and full of interesting little bits of info about the occupants. They’re all so alike but at the same time have been personalised just that little bit.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Each window tells a story Will – actually many years ago, had reason to visit many of these actual buildings – you could write a book about the tenants.
Vic Cross
NEARLY OUR SETUP ,WELL PHILIP LODGE ,GREAT FIND & GREAT PIC
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Yep a bit like Philip Lodge dad – very ‘boxy’ and somewhere to sleep only – get out as much as you can. Mind you, these have stunning views over the harbour!
Maximus
Always depressing to think about living there. :)
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Makes ya grateful for the “neighbours” over your back fence Max?!! Emus and kangaroos and peacocks etc are possibly a better option!
Vic Cross
PS TENENTS, DONT GO SLEEP WALKING

jerry alcantara
i like this box within the box….great one!
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Pleased you saw that Jerry!!! There are a number of ‘box within box’ images here – thanks heaps.
Tom Gomez
Good architecture shot – not that that is good architecture, because it is anything but …
If you tell people you live in a box in Sydney, they will assume it is a cardboard box and you live on the street – hehehe
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Thanks Tom – street people over here tend to sleep on benches and under bridges – The only people living in boxes that I’ve seen were in African and Cambodia!!
Memaa
Great shot and wonderful title. I love the gardens on the top. We’re going to go and spend a week in a “box” just like that on the beach next week. I will be thinking of this shot.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
A little box short term would be OK – long term, not easy!!! Thanks Sue.
Noelene Davies
Not the best looking units I have seen and thank goodness you took these in the daylight and not at night you never know what you might have spotted. Love the title.
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Noelene I’d just missed a sunbathing fellow on another rooftop – he’d become overcome with shyness and ran inside when he saw me! This being the Sydney Harbour Bridge, there is opportunity to see across all kinds of rooftops!
Kazzoom IPA
well done, yep know what that building sits
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Not far from you Kaz!!

Little boxes with trees on top!! You really “squared” this one up Rosalie:) In boxes you can find; cake mixes – toys – jewelry – and pills…. guess we can add people to the list now too!! A nicely taken photo my friend!!
Rog
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
Appreciated Roger … this building is right next to our beautiful Sydney Harbour Bridge so the ‘boxes’ have magnificent views.

Amazing find and a fantastic photograph Rosalie!!
One can imagine all the tenants taking box lunches to work …and thinking inside the box!! lol
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
:) ... all looking like little wind-up people with keys in their backs?!!
George Petrovsky
G’day Rosalie!
A great capture and presentation. You can imagine that it would cost an arm and a leg to buy one of those, due to their proximity to Circular Quay Station, The Rocks area, the CBD, the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. Some, I imagine, would have great Harbour and North Sydney/City?Opera House views. The noise from Bridge traffic and trains would be something they’d get used to.
To be honest, I’d rather have my little caravan in the bush – but then, to each his own…. :)george
Rosalie Dale IPA replied
These used to be council flats – a not-too-salubrious place to live – many years ago – it would be interesting to know if they’ve been sold off to boost council’s coffers!!! I agree the view would be “to die for” ... but I’d get claustrophobic! Thanks for the encouragement George!
Stuart Chapman
Very nicely done indeed Rosalie. I love the way they slope downwards from left to right and the colours are gorgeous and compliment the blue sky very nicely indeed.
