The Sleeper . . .
Another from my excursion to the Train Museum at Thirlmere in the Southern Highlands of NSW (Australia) – again treated with some filters etc to give it an “Orient Express” feel … hopefully!!

nice piece.

Beautiful colours Rosalie! It has the poster style of 20’s travel, but I’m sure they would have made the bed first!!! :) tony.
Rosalie Dale IPA in reply to George Lenz’s comment, 2 months ago
Thanks heaps George
Rosalie Dale IPA in reply to A90Six’s comment, 2 months ago
Hmmmmm depends if they left in haste – or – - – maybe there is a bit of a story here!!! Thanks Tony for the encouragement!

Rosalie Dale IPA in reply to RockyWalley’s comment, 2 months ago
Thank you – my skills were tested here with strange lighting – I’m so pleased you like it!
Rosalie Dale IPA in reply to Marvin Collins’s comment, 2 months ago
Thanks so much Marvin my friend.
Rosalie Dale IPA in reply to Hans Kawitzki’s comment, 2 months ago
Hans I did use HDR (5 images processed from the one jpeg in photomatix) but it left the pic with some artifacting so I used some filters and edging effects to create the olde look. Thanks so much for the compliment!
GailD, 2 months ago

georgieboy98, 2 months ago
I love the way the lighting creates that night time effect and your “finishing touches” have been the icing on the cake. Great work. Peter
Philip Golan, 2 months ago
I agree with Tony. It’s a great 20’s travel poster style, and would look great printed on poster size paper.
Noelene Davies, 2 months ago
Wonderful treatment and capture Rosalie, the only thing wrong is the bed looks a bit hard, don’t think you would get a very good nights rest.lol
peter hoenderdos, 2 months ago

George Petrovsky, 2 months ago
G’day Rosalie!
Sorry, I can’t relate to this picture at all! Back in the olden days, traveling from Wagga Wagga to Sydney by steam train, we were in “Cattle Class”. Hard leather and horsehair seats and needing to huddle together to keep warm and get some sleep. Hmmm… maybe some of it wasn’t tooo bad….
Composition, lighting, colour and treatment are absolutely First Class! You should submit this to the Railway Museum for a Poster! :)george

So much appreciated Phil – thank you. Worked on this one for some time … and I certainly am going to have to go visit again for more shots.
Rosalie Dale IPA in reply to jerry alcantara’s comment, 2 months ago
Hi Jerry – a bubblemail on its way to you! A few attempts to get HDR right on this, A lot of trial and error with lighting, sharpening and some dodging … every photo is different so the process is not the same each time! Thanks for the kind words.
Rosalie Dale IPA in reply to George Petrovsky’s comment, 2 months ago
:) Perhaps I should give a copy to the nice volunteer who opened up a couple of carriages specially … he had his own P&S with him and was interested in what we did with the pics. From memory my ‘sleepers’ had a blanket but no mattress – this one is luxurious!

That sleeper brings back memories of my first train ride ..I was about 18….the old then ‘mail’ train from Grafton to Sydney…it had the most wonderful interior…silver gilded hand basins…and the windows just like these..you could ‘hang out’ and really enjoy the ride!!!! So good to see again…Wonderful image Rosalie…*-)

Great capture. Enjoy the treatment and lighting too. Well done.
Rosalie Dale IPA in reply to debsphotos’s comment, 2 months ago
I remember the soot in the eyes as we hung out windows too – wonderful smell!!! And I do have a shot of the handbasin and some of the brass fittings – must get on with processing them! Thanks so much for the encouragement Deb.

Love this Rosalie, it fires up the imagination due to the atmosphere within …. looks like I’ve just finished my exhaustive journey and arrived at the station … both the locomotive outside the window and my carriage, have stopped …. suitcase in hand, I take a last look at where I have exsisted for the past few days …... another addition to my memory of life as I knew it …... :))
