Mdina is known as the Silent City. It was the capital city of Malta before Valletta. Only a few hundred people live there, and apart from the residents who have been living there since they were very young, only the very well-off can afford to buy a dwelling there. Mdina is rich in history and has many treasures left behind from past rulers. No tourist comes to Malta without visiting Mdina and no Maltese will tell you that Mdina is not a cultural heritage.
