The cathedral, Notre-Dame de Paris, is an example of early Gothic architecture and took 150 years to complete(1163-1345). Twelve million people visit the cathedral each year. The cathedral was built as an expression of profound religious faith on a holy site: the Romans had earlier built a temple to Jupiter here. It is located in the Latin Quarter of Paris, France.
