The Sicilian Village of Vizzini has a derelict village adjacent to it in the valley below. the former site of the Jewish settlement of Vizzini which was a tannery Town. The tannery was a highly profitable business until the town became uninhabitable and the people moved on. Now it is abandoned and dangerous. It is surrounded by cactus plants on the hills where once hides would dry. The cactus, it appears, is the bearer of fruit which is prized and cherished. Something which came as news to this Irishman.
