I organised a group photo shoot with 12 black and white negatives that I had purchased from Steve O’Brien for the occasion. The idea was that everybody in the gang turn up to have their photo taken on this day at this hour at the swing in Bettyglen/Maywood. As it was about a third showed up. Many later expressed that they were on their way, that nobody had told them, that we should do it again etc. Like all of these things we sort of planned to but never did.
I had always intended to put this photo up on Redbubble; in fact it was one of the first that I had prepared to so do so with but I never got round to it.
Last Thursday Gerald who is in this picture died of a heart attack and his funeral was on Saturday in Kells. I hope this is fitting but this photo is for you Ger.
A Poem written by another Redbubbler who happened across the picture
Stopped in time of long ago
All the folk that I used know
They had their life, their chance their will
Family, friends & stranger- still
So bright, so brave, so young , so strong
Once in a place where they’d belong
We come, we stop, then on we go
From whence to where we do not know
