I am not sure how many ghosts fill up their vehicles at this station each day, but it stands stalwart along what used to be the major highway (US 67) entering Glen Rose, Texas before it was rerouted a quarter-mile to the north. I don’t know how many times I have photographed this building, but it is a wonderful structure, as you can see. My wife, Susan, uploaded her shot of this a year ago.

Her image is her fourth most popular image. Her most popular image is this photograph of me:

Gorgeous material and capture. Yes it will take quite a number of years for that to melt back into nature.

  • Thanks, Betty. The structure and the land upon which it sits is up for sale. I am hopeful they don’t raze the building to put up a Starbucks!

The rock work on this building is just fantastic. Its coloring and shapes of stones are wonderful.

  • The stone/brickwork is the reason I keep wanting to take the perfect photo of this structure. If you read my latest journal entry, you’ll see what I went through to get this one! ;) thanks Ciana!!!

wonderful image, always makes me a bit sad to see this happen due to “progress”……

  • Me too. I shoot a lot of defunct service stations in many a small town. This one is right in the town where I live. Thanks, Andrew.
