As the surrounding station slow deteriorates, the motor vehicle under it’s awning rusts away. Seen on Hwy 77, just north of Hillsboro, Texas. It sits in a field behind a high stock fence and I took several shots off a tripod through the wire, but was less than pleased with those results. I finally climbed the wire and took this shot one-handed, as my left hand was grasping the pole to keep me from falling.

    Very nicely done

  • Thanks. I felt extremely lucky to have gotten this shot perched precariously atop that fence! ;)

Was the road fenced off. I know where this area is!! Highway bypassed it and it faded away!

  • No, Hwy 77 is still open, but the field where the station was located was fenced off and had a few ostriches enclosed within.

I wish they wouldn’t fence up the old stuff like that. Spanish Fort just put a fence around the old high school which is a bummer. I’m not above trespassing though ;)

Great shot, you did a good job capturing the beauty of old Texas. I love how there’s a car there.

  • So late, so late, however did I miss such a fine comment. Thanks. I agree about the fence, but I guess they didn’t want their ostriches running around on the road. ;)

Like this one Terence, a lot of History and stories in those surroundings. Hugs, Shirley

  • Thanks, dear. It has been awhile since I looked at this work. It is just on the edge of town on the old highway replaced by the Interstate (freeway). I do not, however, know who to ask for historic information.
