This piece was inspired by Japanese woodblock prints from the 19th-century.
In Japanese folklore, foxes possess magical powers. They can shapeshift from fox to human form, which they use to seduce or steal from their victims. They’re also capable of appearing in dreams, creating illusions, and possessing people. There are several stories about foxes taking the form of a beautiful woman and falling in love with a human man, but there are also a few of tales of a fox stealing the life force of someone through sexual contact.
