Like Leaves We Touched

In a room, as teachers taught
You came floating in, so enchanting
Our eyes met, signals sent, the moment, lingering
Your eyes smiled, how mine did melt
At loves first sight, so was the beginning
A turn in life, nature’s song, both found singing

Walking now, hand in hand, fingers caressing
A friendship found, higher sound, so intriguing
Days went by, trusting lives, souls shared so revealing
Like leaves we touched, we felt
Our hearts joined in giving

We were young, so in love
The days were spent, feeling, exploring
First a kiss, then a touch, first for both
So right it was, afterward, just holding
Pledges made and were kept, a future bright
So entwined now our lives, fresh each morning

Then along came my songs
And you danced to them, swirling, turning
So much grace in your form, sent my heart to spinning
Like leaves we touched, we moved
Our hearts sang the story

Then one day, so sadly it came
A sickness found you, would it take you
Three summers long, our love had grown
You bravely hold on, still singing our dreams
My heart breaking, your eyes kept glowing
Never fading, mine filling sorrow’s streams

As you left, so young in life
Your hand still holding mine, belonging
I kissed it one last time, always to remember
Like leaves we touched, we loved
As your last breath flew away forever

In onward years, I look back in times past
In my eyes I see her dancing, her eyes still singing
They call me to reaching, as was our beginning
We loved us once, she and I, promises kept
Deep in hearts, memories clear have never faded
In my life, always to be, growing old together

In a book, I keep pressed a leaf, there preserving
At times of need, there I look, to be close again
Imagining us both, loving strong, timeless, being
Like leaves we touch, we are
As we were oh so many years ago

This is a poem about love. The story of my
first love. She was the best and most shining
example of love that I have ever known.
She died so young, but she will always and
forever be with me. In a book, I do have a leaf
kept in waxed paper and from time to time
I will look at it and touch it, to be with her and
to keep a promise.
To this day she still overwhelms me.

Just a guy who loves to write; poetry, lyrics, short stories and random thoughts… it is my passion. Photography is my second passion as I love to capture the world around me… to make time stop and to savor a subject forever.

Roger, this is very beautiful, and so sad at the same thing. I am so sorry for your loss. But thank you for sharing that with me, such a love can only be dreamed of in my life. You are such an amazing person.

True love is a life long experience, in life and in death….

I’m deeply moved by this dedicational poem. I felt very much like a voyeur when reading, I had a very clear vision of you and Liz walking hand in hand, a very clear vision of you looking at the leaf you keep…

This must have been very difficult to write yet the easiest….

It was hard because of loss – - it was easy in expressing the joy she gave me.
