Levant Tin Mine, Trewellard, Cornwall
The Levant mine is situated on Cornwall’s rugged North coast halfway between St. Just and St. Ives, it opened in 1820 and mined for tin and copper till it’s closure in 1930, 130,000 tons of copper and 24,000 tons of tin were extracted during it’s working life plus substantial quantities of arsenic.
The mine is owned and maintained by the National Trust and is the home of Cornwall’s only working steam beam engine, guided tours can be enjoyed by the visitor.
In the distance about 2 miles along the coast is the Pendeen Lighthouse, halfway between and just out of shot is the Geevor Tin Mine which was the last major tin mine to close in Cornwall, it is now open for guided tours and well worth a visit.

Not sure whether I get more pleasure from you images, or your narratives Rod, but I do know the combination is extremely enjoyable, and I always manage to learn so much. This is spectacular my friend, and I’ve always had a soft spot for sandstone. It’s not seen often in our parts, although recently I’ve seen an occasional feature wall pop up in new sub-divisions. That water looks amazing too!
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much Rob, I do like to give a bit of a description to help viewers understand the scene or subject that bit better,

incongruous to see industry … and mining of all things … smack dab in the middle of such an extraordinary natural scene!!!!! But at this point the golden stone buildings themselves have taken their rightful place in the natural scheme of beauty. As always, presented to us so professionally!!!!
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much Lois, tin mining has been so much a part of the history of Cornwall and the many old ruins of the engine houses are something that we all accept as being part of the area,
Regards, Rod.

An incredibly beautiful photo and you have the ability of making every scene into a real eye catching vista. Once again my activity monitor didn’t pick you up and I had been wondering if all was well with you. To be on the safe side I had better take regular visits to your home page. The clouds in this really do complement the old workings and I thought that was Pendeen lighthouse in the distance! A real treat. Best wishes, Peter
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you so much Peter, yes there are still so many images not showing on my watchlist as well so I just tab on the photographer every time now, I am on Annual leave and the weather has been wet all week apart from a half day yesterday when we got up on Dartmoor,
