The Old Lizard Lifeboat Station, Cornwall
The old lifeboat station at the Lizard point served the area well from 1914 till it’s closure in the early sixties, the current one is just a short way round the coast.
The Lizard Point is the most Southerly point on the UK mainland and is notorious for treacherous seas, with many outcrops of jagged rocks, many ships have been wrecked at this point during a storm.
Quite a contrast when we see it on such a calm and beautiful Summer’s day like I enjoyed on my recent holiday in Cornwall.

rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much Diane, Lands End is the most Westerly point of the UK mainland, the Lizard Peninsula is about 20 miles East of it but around 15 miles more Southerly at the Point, geography lesson over, LOL.,

The land and dock seem to be reaching out to the sea both to welcome (and to warn) any visitors of impending peril! .I love the tremendous variety of colors that appear in this as well!
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much Ken, hard to believe it when you see it so calm but the conditions can be horrendous for shipping here during a storm,
Regards, Rod.

Very rustic scene Rod – this coastline is quite similar to Eastern Canada – Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, etc. Beautiful shot! Cheers, S.
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much Sandra, the rugged Cornish coast has been shaped by thousands of years of exposure to the full force of the Atlantic Ocean, if only it was always this calm and sunny,

Trainman
What a tremendous take with an excellent history Rod this reminds me of that terrible tragedy in 1981 just around the corner when the entire crew of the (Solomon Brown); Penlee life boat; made the ultimate sacrifice in a valiant attempt to save the crew of a ship in trouble. Regards Dave.
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much indeed Dave, there is a memorial garden for the crew of the Solomon Brown just off the road on the way into Mousehole and I have stopped there on several occasions to pay my respect to the brave lost crew, as you well know, the Atlantic is rarely as calm as it was on the morning I took this image,
Regards, Rod.
jacquei
A lovely shot of dear old Cornwall a place full of history, it brings to mind the smugglers and the wreckers of years gone by….thanks for sharing it Rod….great capture….....jacquei
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much Jacquei, I wouldn’t like to hazard a guess as to the number of vessels that have been wrecked on Cornwall’s coast over the years, the smuggling is a lighter subject and I’m sure it still goes on today,
Regards, Rod.
kathy s gillen...

Wonderful picture Rod,
rodsfotos replied
Good morning Ann, thank-you so much my friend, the weather has taken a turn for the worse here, heavy rain but the gardens need it even if we don’t,
Regards, Rod.
georgieboy98
You have the gift of putting the same hex on the ocean as me! It can be as rough as they come until the day we are visiting when it all miraculously calms down and there’s hardly a decent wave in sight! This is another classic shot that delights me no end. I love the colour of the vegetation and that water looks magnificent. Is the little gift shop still there by the way? And did you walk much of the coastal path? Best wishes, Peter
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much Peter, yes the little gift shop and tearoom is still thriving, I didn’t walk so far on this occasion, just about as far along the coast as you can see in this composition then after a welcome cuppa we went up to the lighthouse and a short way beyond it, a bit too warm for walking on that day,
Regards, Rod.
kimie
Another beautiful shot Rod, so Cornwall x
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much Kim, I believe coastal compositions show Cornwall at it’s best even though there are so many delights in the rural parts of the county,
Regards, Rod.
Trudi's Images
Stunning view Rod, great colours and lines through the water , very pretty scene :-)
rodsfotos replied

this colorful rugged coast and the deep blue sea so calm.
lovely wild flowers ! Great capture Rod ! I add it to my favorites.
Amitiés, Daffo
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much Daffo, there are normally big waves breaking on the coastline at the Lizard Point, I have never seen it as calm as this before, the lichen and wildflowers growing on the cliffs do add so much colour at this time of year,
Regards, Rod.
Paul Woloschuk
Nice shot Rod, and an interesting description.
I’ve been to Cornwall a fair bit over the last two years whilst my daughter’s been at Truro College. She’ll be at Plymouth University after the summer break, so I’ll have to start to get familiar with Devon!
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much Paul, doubtless you’ll come to Devon with the camera, you’ll find lots of interesting subjects and compositions around the waterfront in Plymouth alone and the old Barbican area of the city is a photographer’s paradise with the harbour and ancient narrow side streets with their ancient buildings,
Regards, Rod.
Paul Woloschuk
Thanks for the tips Rod….I might even see you around and about!
Joyce Dickens,...
Rod you have done a marveous job of composing this image; excellent POV, rich, vibrant color and superb exposure…..I love the textures….JD

Lovely to see what The Lizard looks like Rod ~ Thanks for sharing :)
rodsfotos replied
Many thanks again Sonia, the lichen and many wildflowers on the cliffs added so much colour all along this stretch of the cliffs, the whole of the Lizard peninsula (Some 14 miles long) is so rugged and beautiful,
Regards, Rod.

Rod;
This is a lovely landscape and a very well composed presentation!
Rich colours and fine deatils, and the’factory’ is an effective focal point…
(the sky is very attractive!)
Greetings,
John
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much John, it is always a pleasure to receive your kind comments, the last time I was here the wave action was a lot more spectacular but it was good to see it on a calm Summer’s day for a change,

You have captured this lovely spot so well Rod, Lizard point looks very beautiful with its rocky shore. I’m sure I could spend some time here without being bored…:) Regards, Henri
rodsfotos replied
Many visitors go to to the Lizard Point because it is the most Southerly point on the UK mainland and are pleasantly surprised at it’s rugged beauty on getting there, it is a place I never tire of visiting Henri and I’m sure you’d enjoy it too, many thanks my friend,
Regards, Rod.
CarolM
What a lovely scene, Rod. The blues are gorgeous. The colors on the rocks, the lifeboat station and the point jetting out into the sea all makes for a great photo. You reallly know how to put together a lovely image.
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much Carol, it was good to get such fine weather on our visit to the Lizard Point even though I’d have preferred a bit more wave action against the rocks to add natural drama to the image, no pleasing us photographers is there?, LOL.,
Regards, Rod.
Shaun Whiteman
Great shot Rod, lovely composition and colours!
A few years back I did voluntary National Trust work pulling invasive fig weeds from 100 of yards of coastline, it was hard work but the views made up for it!!
rodsfotos replied
My hat’s off to you for the voluntary work Shaun, good that there are still people like you who care about the environment, many thanks my friend,
Regards, Rod.
Johnsart
beautifully taken Rod. It still looks like it’s in a reasonable shape. The colours are wonderful specially the red mosses on the rocks.
rodsfotos replied
Hi John, many thanks my friend, I wish I’d taken a few more close-up images of the rocks when I was there, the wildflowers, moss and lichen growing on them were so colourful,
Regards, Rod.
LYN EVANS
Beautiful capture Rod. Your images are always so pin sharp and the colours are stunning.
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much Lyn, I have never seen it so flat calm at the Lizard Point before but the bonus of the many Alpine flowers on the cliffs made my day,
Regards, Rod.
Lois Bryan
It does looks so amazing calm … but I know what the sea can do when it makes its mind up to play. Lyn is right … the “pin sharp”ness of your images is what takes my breath away. I think we talked about tripods once … I really must conquer my abhorrence of the bloomin’ things and haul one out more often!!!!!!!
rodsfotos replied
Many thanks again Lois, using a tripod does give that edge on detail, I sometimes use a small sturdy minipod that fits in my camera rucksack if I’m walking a long way,
Regards, Rod.
PhotoAvenue
This is a well composed presentation!

How often did heroes go to sea here and perhaps not come back themselves? A great place and shot! Another fave!
rodsfotos replied
The sea can be treacherous at the Lizard Point though it looked so calm when I was there, many thanks again Juergen, much appreciated,
Regards, Rod.
Malcolm Chant
This is another example of what I was saying Rod, how is you get this wonderful effect???,
it’s something which i’m unable to do.
Excellent picture, even though i’ve been here many times, it looks great through someone elses LENS.
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much again Malcolm, we all see different compositions as photographers when we visit a location, never undervalue your own work my friend, you are doing just fine,
Regards, Rod.
