Crabber's Row, Newlyn, Cornwall

The row of colourful little crabbing boats caught my eye the last time I was down in Cornwall on holiday.

Newlyn is the busiest fishing port in the Westcountry of England and a large number of fishing boats of all sizes can normally be seen in the harbour, these small open crabbing and lobster boats are normally in the inner-harbour of the port with the larger trawlers dominating the outer-harbour.

I will be back there in a week’s time for a holiday and hopefully getting quite a few new images from around the far West of Cornwall

Lovely bright crisp shot Rod. I quite enjoy these marina images of yours – they are all very complimentary to the areas in which you’ve shot them in. You should consider making a book about these quaint little marinas and adding the bits of historical data you often offer beside the images. Would make a nice gift book for anyone who enjoys travel or marina / coastal village imagry. Perhaps a small tourism booklet or the local shops to market? Well done. Cheers, S.

  • rodsfotos replied

Thank-you so much Sandra, now that sounds like a good idea, I did sell a number of images years ago and they were used in a Cornish souvenir booklet, though my share of the proceeds were relatively small, it was good to see them in print and selling in shops.
If I manage to retire early in a year or so, I will have a lot more time to pursue that avenue, thanks so much for the comment and brilliant idea,
    Regards, Rod.

As usual a very excellent photo that so typifies those quaint Cornish fishing towns and villages. The foreground boats, plus the diagonals provided by both the boats and the harbour wall are terrific features that contribute towards the overall interest of the scene and I am not ashamed to admit to feeling a certain pang of envy that you’ll be in that area again next weekend. Have a great time (as I am sure you will) and I look forward to seeing the resultant photos.
    All best wishes

Your shots are always so interesting, Rod and gives us a taste of the region so well. I noticed in the background how the roof tops all in a row all have the same shape kind of like the boats in the harbor have similar shapes. Makes an interesting image.

  • rodsfotos replied

Thank-you very much Maxy, Newlyn is a very busy fishing port and this is one of the few parts of the harbour that I felt wasn’t too crowded or busy for a photograph, the buildings immediately behind the boats are all connected to the fishing industry, I’m looking forward to going there again during my holiday next week,
