Waiting

An early morning image looking across Ullswater in the English Lake District National Park.
The ferry was tied up to the jetty at Poolley Bridge, waiting for the first passengers of the day.
The ferry boat trips are very popular during the Summer months as they travel the length of the lake stopping at Howtown then on to Glenridding at the opposite end of the lake, a most informative commentary of the history and geography of the surrounding area is normally given by the skipper from the wheelhouse, a most enjoyable trip for anyone visiting the area.

    A very thoughtful composition of a beautiful scene!!
    I love the variety of blues you have captured here .. the soft blue colored mountains in the distance, , the vivid sky blue, and the reflected blue color of the water. Ferries are one of my favorite modes of transportation…available to me only when I am on vacation somewhere!!

    I am completely rapt in everything about this photo – the nicely contrasting colours of the boat, of course and the angle at which you’ve taken it. The distant view of a yacht club adds great width to the lake and the rolling hills make for a perfect backdrop. And as for those clouds!     Wonderful light and the DOF is extraordinary. It is so beautiful!! I miss the ferries of Alaska. The one in Fairbanks which cruised the Chena River was/is wonderful. I think I’ll go through my files and see if I can locate a good shot to upload. They have a wonderful charm about them. I like the sage green colour of this beautiful craft and enjoy the view of the mountains, foothills and dense forests in the distance. This is such a beautiful area!!

    Thank-you very much Sharon, the Lake District is indeed beautiful but the weather can be very mixed, I was fortunate to get such good light on the morning I took this view over Ullswater.
    I hope you do find and post some of your images of the ferries in Alaska, I would love to see them here on RB. and I’m sure that many others would as well,
